So this FJ80 we have in the shop was recently bought by a long time client (who has had others in the past), and was brought in for a thorough going over by our tech who owns a 60 Series that he's rebuilding top to bottom. We're now addressing several of the issues that the inspection revealed, and the deeper we get, the more we find. Upon disassembly of the left front Birfield, new shit came to light:
Because hammers and chisels are how you install bearings, right? We figure either this thing lost the joint at some point to cause some of this damage, and the parts were reused, and/or somebody utterly hacked a rebuild/reseal job. The front diff was full of material from this little episode as well. Fortunately the axle housing is still serviceable, we'll clean it up a bit, press in new bearings & seals, and it'll be good to go. I hate hacks with the nuclear fire of a thousand suns.

We're getting everything right from Toyota, so it'll be whatever was factory.
